Now a days anybody with a deluxe Canon digital camera with a dedicated on camera flash, and possibly a couple of Paul Buff junk lights and some big flat lighting soft boxes, and some photoshop wizzardry is suddenly a "photographer".
I don't shoot girls jumping in mid air for the sake of copy catting a silly photo concept, nor do I go looking for rail road tracks for the sake of shooting someone on rail road tracks. I don't shoot models wearing angel wings, devil wings, fairy wings, or whatever wings are the fad this month. Nor do I shoot "pin ups" or anything else of a fad nature. I have added firearms in photos before, but I never just throw in an AK47 or an ugly Glock just for sake of adding a firearm to the portfolio.
In short, no gimmick photography done here.
Primarily I shoot black and white, and primarily I shoot hard light, typically employing Fresnel lighting, beit electronic flash generated or continuous burn. When I opt for softer lighting it's typically from a pan reflector. Soft doesn't have to mean mush or flat lighting. I won't use two lights if one is all that is required, conversely I won't use one light only if two or more are required.
