Did you know that many of the old buildings at Balboa Park are haunted?
Show up on the Saturday before Halloween and let's take a close look at the dark and scary places? We can meet at the Spreckels Organ Pavilion at dusk, in costume and see if we can scare anyone ... or be scared!
Historian Nicholas Rogers, exploring the origins of Halloween, notes that while "some folklorists have detected its origins in the Roman feast of Pomona, the goddess of fruits and seeds, or in the festival of the dead called Parentalia, it is more typically linked to the Celtic festival of Samhain, whose original spelling was Samuin (pronounced sow-an or sow-in)". The name of the festival historically kept by the Gaels and celts in the British Isles which is derived from Old Irish and means roughly "summer's end".

Models, if you show up without a costume, we can not be responsible for your soul.
Photographers: Low light ... colored gels, light painting.
Will we see Pomona, the goddess of fruits and seeds, or be chased by "Freddy" Krueger. Are you strong enough to take a chance?
WHAT TO WEAR: We are going to be shooting at the Organ Pavillion and across from the Museum of Man .. and in between. Since we are going to be painting with light, please wear something that has a lighter colored fabric included. I that way, the light added will be picked up by those lighter colors. A costume is not required, but will add to the fun.
