Photography is a type of art and has many branches and styles. Just like music and movies, there are a variety of genres. There is never one genre that is the "right" one. Genres in photography range from nature, journalistic, wedding and studio portraits. Everyone has their own taste and style. Lifestyle photography, however, differs from other genres. What is the uniqueness of lifestyle photography? Lifestyle photography should be about capturing the relationships and personalities of our clients as we see them in a given moment. There are two main styles in lifestyle photography. Either you create the moment, or document or recreate something. Since the photographer is capturing a moment, another photographer cannot duplicate the same moment. The first time the moment is captured, it is the natural one. The second time is just copy it.
I have always taken pictures. I greatly enjoyed documenting the lifestyle of my daughter, especially when she was very little and always did silly and unique things with no posing. I've seen that these are the moments when children have no cares and behave completely naturally. I believe it's important to document such moments, and that's where the art of photography comes in.
I grew up in a family that had a photo studio. This led me to always be observant. This is very important in lifestyle photography because there will always be great unexpected moments worth capturing. These are golden moments, moments that cannot be recreated because they were done unintentionally to begin with. Lifestyle photography is the perfect way to document these precious moments and relationships.
My job as a photographer is storytelling. I document the art I capture with illustrated narratives, photo albums made like a book, recording and documenting images. It is with these that we can look back to see and remember the moods, natural settings and actions in an artistic manner. These visuals are part of what makes a memorable story.
